Senate Republicans are stalling on approving funding for Trump’s proposed border wall. Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, just told reporters that Trump’s supplemental funding request for the Mexican border wall will be delayed until later in the year.
This is, essentially, a denial of Trump’s request to consider the bill alongside the FY17 defense bill.

Trump’s proposed supplemental spending bill suggests cutting $18 billion from programs such as medical research, infrastructure and community grants so U.S. taxpayers can afford the down payment on the border wall. Many were outraged, and saw this as a betrayal of his oft-shouted “make Mexico pay for it” campaign mantra.

It also seeks to lift a moratorium on federal coal leasing and remove the requirement that federal officials consider the impact of climate change when making decisions.

Several of the measures could take years to implement and are unlikely to change broader economic trends that are pushing the nation toward cleaner sources of energy than coal. But the order sent an unmistakable message about the direction in which Trump wants to take the country — toward unfettered oil and gas production, with an apathetic eye to worries over global warming.

我怕怕地说，加拿大华人现在也在积极参政。我一直觉得华人应该积极参政，但为啥觉得这种积极参政就不会有啥好事呢。这种鸡血拉票文章，我简直不知道从何驳起。而且就象当初川粉们占据了微信群，我混的微信群只见到支持者了。我都不知道是不是有象我一样的观点不同的人。他们声音太大太响太激情了，我觉得没劲和人吵架，根本都不发声，不知道跟我观点一致的人是不是也是同样想法。

旅居巴黎的中国公民，在家中无辜被破门而入的警察开枪击毙。法国左派媒体集体失声，华人愤怒示威被警方粗暴驱赶，多人受伤。而在极左刺激下日益活跃的极右翼分子们则趁机撒布排华言论。——这就是在一个严重左倾的社会里，不参政不积极投票的华人们都会面临的处境：如果穆斯林遭遇暴力执法，媒体能疯了，但落到你身上，就是无人关心。因为左派政府的博爱都集中在投票率高达80%+的穆斯林身上；而放任这种极左倾向肆虐，华人还会遭遇另一重打击：被极左激怒的极右分子，会不分青红皂白排除所有外来移民，包括华人！

我读了NPR和NYTIMES报道都说川普这个取消奥巴马环保法案没什么实际用处。奥巴马法案一直在打官司扯皮并未实现，过去八年煤电厂从全美发电量一半降到三分之一是因为天然气更便宜清洁。煤炭发电已经没法逆转回来了。比较可怕的石油工业。
我刚开始看dark money, 新序言里说川普政权里很多人，尤其环保能源方面，用的都说Koch 兄弟的人。koch 也是pence 的金主。Koch 兄弟跟环保部门那是多年宿敌。不知道接下来会出什么幺蛾子...

发过几次声，微信的特点就是马上刷过去了，然后同样的类似东西被不同的人发了又发，我就没力气了。而且我不习惯和过于鸡血的人理论，我自己太不鸡血。

可能也因为觉得这帮人掀不起什么大浪吧。他们要支持的这个人，选情基本是垫底的。而且这是党内大选啊，我又不打算参加保守党，入党不入党，选谁不选谁其实我无权置喙。

The compromise deal was announced late on Wednesday by Cooper and Republican state lawmakers. They said they had agreed on a way to repeal portions of HB2, the law that restricts the abilities of transgender people to use the restroom corresponding to their gender identity — just in time for a NCAA deadline.

The United Arab Emirates arranged a secret meeting in January between Blackwater founder Erik Prince and a Russian close to President Vladimir Putin as part of an apparent effort to establish a back-channel line of communication between Moscow and President-elect Donald Trump, according to U.S., European and Arab officials.

The meeting took place around Jan. 11 — nine days before Trump’s inauguration — in the Seychelles islands in the Indian Ocean, officials said. Though the full agenda remains unclear, the UAE agreed to broker the meeting in part to explore whether Russia could be persuaded to curtail its relationship with Iran, including in Syria, a Trump administration objective that would be likely to require major concessions to Moscow on U.S. sanctions.

Though Prince had no formal role with the Trump campaign or transition team, he presented himself as an unofficial envoy for Trump to high-ranking Emiratis involved in setting up his meeting with the Putin confidant, according to the officials, who did not identify the Russian.

Prince was an avid supporter of Trump. After the Republican convention, he contributed $250,000 to Trump’s campaign, the national party and a pro-Trump super PAC led by GOP mega-donor Rebekah Mercer, records show. He has ties to people in Trump’s circle, including Stephen K. Bannon, now serving as the president’s chief strategist and senior counselor. Prince’s sister Betsy DeVos serves as education secretary in the Trump administration. And Prince was seen in the Trump transition offices in New York in December.

Blackwater? Yes, THAT Blackwater. The private army that rose to wealth and power under GWB during the Iraq War and has extensive ties to Southern Christian fundamentalists, White Supremacists, and those who believe in the Apocalypse.

Obama 在任时另一个对美国很好的政策 prison reform，估计也完蛋了。哦对了，美国政府刚决定把本来给联合国 reproductive health 组织的份子钱（三千多万）给断了，号称是断绝 abortion。参议院通过法案允许州政府自行决定要不要让 Planned Parenthood 分到联邦政府的 Title X grants。总之就是针对妇女群众的呗 --- 象 Ivanka Trump 这种“贵族妇女”除外 --- 又穷又是女的，不压迫你压迫谁？

班农最近没啥动静啊，不知是否失宠了。今天在地铁站门口看见一个很象班农的人，吓了我一大跳，细看没那么胖也没那么丑。

Bill O'Reilly 的性骚扰历史被曝出来，好几个公司都迫于舆论而把广告给撤了。有人开玩笑说，连Mercedes 都撤广告，他们当年可是给希特勒做炉子的主儿。

国会共和党又一次未能达成协议提出替代 ACA 的新医保法案。This is getting pathetic. 共和党花费大量的纳税人的钱在这上面做无用功，正经事（如 tax reform, trade negoations, diplomatic agenda）却一件都没干成，无非就是要发泄对于 Obama 的仇恨，Obamacare 一天存在他们就一天受不了，哪怕内容原样照搬呢，只要能把名字除掉大概就满足了。一个大国国会搞到如此小肚鸡肠的地步，可见这些人心理有多变态。

推特把Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection（也就是现代美国版的盖世太保们）告上法庭！
因为DHS和CBP联合起来要求推特提供alt_uscis用户信息，用词强硬！推特告他们越界侵权。昨天闹得连参议院都有议员要求DHS的IG调查此事。推特的案子刚交上去时，ACLU就出来声明他们直接代表受害人（也就是alt_uscis的匿名用户）一起告DHS&CBP. 挺热闹的。昨天早上递交的诉讼，今天一早DHS就把无理要求撤了，推特也就把案子撤了。推特虽然被用户各种抱怨（尤其是对用户骚扰的不作为），但这件事做得还是挺漂亮的。

比较令人害怕的不是 CBP 和 DHS 勒令 Twitter 交出用户讯息，而是这种网络警察的做法并非今天才出现。重大转折点来自911之后在小布什总统的推动下，在国会的支持下，政府以预防恐怖主义的名义大幅度增加监视公民言论和交流的权力，减少私人隐私权。当然，不可否认私人隐私权的保护必然会增加秘密恐怖主义活动的可能性。这一路争议已经持续了十几年，在安全和隐私/自由之间如何选择，反正没有十全十美的解决方法，此消必然彼长，得到一些必然会失去一些。美国民众自己也拿不定主意，舍不得放弃，又想要这又想要那，所以一直争执不下。所以监控民众的言论和活动很可能扩大，有朝一日世界网警达成一致并非没有可能。

其实在个人隐私/自由和限制政府的监视权力方面，某些极右派/libertarians 与极左派/ACLU 立场是一致的 --- 如果排除那些两面三刀虚伪不实的极右派 --- 就是政府与个人之间的平衡必须向个人倾斜，因为政府本来就占太大优势。而另一方面，政治立场向中间靠拢的左派（如HRC）与右派（如 neo-conservatives）也是聚到一起的。

（注：这里说的左派右派都是以西方政治体系为坐标的。中国的左右概念，大多数时候跟这个坐标是反的，剩下时间根本没有 correlation。）

简单粗暴地说，共和党内部分两派：

1. George W. Bush 以及布什家族为代表的 neo-conservatives，里根和尼克松是前辈，在国际政策上是 invertensionists，即世界警察。目前在川皇后宫的 Reince Priebus 也属于这一派。

2. 草根茶党，这里面也挺杂的，不过整体来说是 nationalists 和 isolationists，认为美国管好自己的事儿即可，不要出去捅咕。当然他们也反对国际贸易，NAFTA, TPP, 移民，全球化。班叔就是代表。

所以，当川皇推出反难民反移民建墙的政策时，#2群众非常支持，#1不满意也不敢出声；当他去炸叙利亚时，#1心中窃喜，而#2群众就炸锅了。今天看见新纳粹领袖 Richard Spencer 在推上大骂川普且声援 Assad --- 以前他可是很拥护川皇哒。

除了表里如一的坦诚的（或者缺心眼儿的）#1, #2 类型之外，还有纯属投机或者精神分裂的保守派政客或者狗腿，一边喊着政府太大了要把政府饿死不要全球化，一边跟着领导PG后面支持扩军殖民打仗。

当然，民主党内也有类似的分裂。GWB 入侵伊拉克的时候，可没少支持的 liberal 左派知识分子。我不是很清楚他们的动机到底是 naivety 还是神经病。

坦白讲我不认为这件事是普京爸爸策划的，他还没有那么笨。

表面看上去没有逻辑的事情，底下常常有扭曲的逻辑。例如 Evangelical Christian fundamentalists 群众虽然仇视联邦政府（说来话长）也对于全球化资本主义没兴趣，但是当年可是大力支持 GWB 的伊拉克战争的。一方面是因为 GWB 是自己人 (born-again Evangelical)，另一方面是因为很多人相信要迎接世界末日必须按照圣经启示录里的字面意思，Apocalypse 须从中东地区开始，而 GWB 的行动就是引爆世界末日的第一步。我没仔细研究，据说有十分完整详细的一套神话，哦不，理论。
