1. Mama Mia!
2. The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
推荐一下David Sedaris 的新书 "When You Are Engulfed in Flames." 推荐!It's light and funny.

I think these pop songs are inextricably connected with the 60s and 70s and therefore induce a particular nostalgia for people of a certain age. My ex-boss is a self-proclaimed "Flower Child" and talked about how the social mores among young people were so different from they are now. It was a unique period in American history when young people, for once, felt they had some power and influence (even though they didn't really --- it was still their parents and LBJ and Nixon who had all the power). Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Jimmy Hendrix, etc. were sooooooooooo massively influential and revered that ABBA and the Carpenters seemed like flimsy bubble gum.

Yes, for once, in this country. The youth and anti-Vietnam War movement in the 60s and early 70s quickly caused a backlash amoung the "adults" and led to two landslide election victories by Nixon. After Nixon resigned because of the Watergate scandal, there was a brief period of Carter, who was pretty religious too. Then there was the endless "golden age" of the 80s when the Reagan ideology dominated the country. To best understand the social atmosphere of the 80s, see Oliver Stone's movie "Wall Street." It was an extremely conservative period when much of the social services infrastructure was either privatized or dismantled. The conservative movement that started with Reagan has continued through today and has become more extreme than ever. People today remember Nixon as this evil guy, but in fact his policies would be considered moderate or middle-of-the-road today. For example, he established and supported a lot of environmental protection policies. His power-grabbing tactics are nothing compared with what is going on today. Eaves-dropping on political rivals? The crime that got him thrown out of the White House would be nothing today as the Prez can legally eaves-drop on any American citizen.
This is not Europe...
Basically, the social and political climate in this country has slowly drifted very very far right of where it was in the 60s and early 70s. Because the drift has been relatively slow, most people do not feel it until it is too late --- the typical frog-boiling concept. Indeed the general climate in US is separating farther and farther from most developed countries and falling closer to ... China, Russia, and other totalitarian regimes.

Jun wrote:Tell No One
Violent delights.
