chinese courts are so far from being independent that to use its verdict on such a politically charged case to prove the validity of either side's claim is pretty much pointless. and i say this not because i'm an "angry youth" but because of the institutional links between the party, state and courts.

ah, i really hated this movie. it was so earnest in wanting to be relevant to current events that it became a caricature. the story did not have any purpose other than helping to make the value judgment already obvious in the first frame: tyranny bad. i adore the lovely np, but she seems to have los...

you're not alone :-P people who use phrases like 舔好自己的伤口 need to be slapped. i dunno what it is about [steoreotype alert] the chinese literary tradition that makes oversentimentalizing so blatant. facts are not important; analysis even less so. it comes down to dressing up these tired, ane...
dang it's expensive to do the right thing. those tees are expensive... i know, i know, they support local causes and all, but people would be more willing to be charitable and less suspicious of gap's motives if prices were lower. i find it somewhat ironic that gap is paying some african workers liv...

nyt researcher in beijing, jailed after predicting jiang zm's final exit from politics 2 days before it happened--jiang gave up his post as chairman of the central military commission. the funny thing is that it was sort of expected (of course there was speculation that jiang might hold on), and jia...

that seems perfectly attainable--if zhao yan were born in the states, that'd be him. oh wait, that also means he wouldn't be in jail now.silkworm wrote:an ABC who speaks fluent Mandarin, married a local girl, and works for the New York Times. But I’m sure he would look down on all of us.

the 2 collar wine at TJ is exclusive to the store, i believe. costco carries name brands and in my experience their prices are lower than most liquor stores. that mitbbs article is intense... it weirds me out a little that someone could catalog a store's inventory and compare prices with such zeal. ...

"东欧国家象波兰应该很怀念社会主义时期" that's coz chinese never learned about how the soviet union trea...

well, the chance of getting killed by one of those katyusha-style rockets hizbollah uses is much smaller than by an israeli airstrike. i know way too little about this conflict--i tend to tune out when my colleagues talk about the many layers of israel-lebanon-hizbollah-syria-iran-shi'a-suni wrangli...
